Deena Snipes, Principal of Asset Management of Glenfield Capital, joined a panel to address the quarterly meeting of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) at the Palmetto Club in Columbia, SC. The panel comprised out-of-state investors who had recently acquired office assets in Columbia’s downtown. The panel discussed their rationale for investing in the downtown Columbia real estate market.
Snipes stressed the appeal of Columbia’s rapidly revitalizing downtown district. Main Street is experiencing a renaissance similar to higher-profile cities, and 1441 Main, which Glenfield purchased in June 2017, is in the center of this ongoing dynamic trend.
Downtown Columbia is undergoing a resurgence that is transforming it into a 24/7 vibrant destination. The neighboring real estate around 1441 Main has been invigorated not only by the adaptive reuse of older buildings but also through the addition of new student housing, residential developments, hotel rooms, chef-driven restaurants and complementary street level retail. The area also houses The Columbia Museum of Art, a classic art deco independent film theater and the South Carolina State House. In the last decade, a weekly farmers market has become a popular destination on Main Street.
